Focus areas
Our group is working on the identification of cancer biomarkers. In particular, we study the methylome of colon cancer, kidney cancer, breast cancer and skin cancer patients. New diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers are evaluated against current clinical standards and further developed into clinical trials.

In 2000 en 2001 was zij werkzaam als postdoctoral fellow aan de Johns Hopkins Universiteit in Baltimore, Maryland, Verenigde Staten (Herman/Baylin laboratorium)
Begin aanstelling MUMC
Na haar terugkeer in Maastricht in 2001 was ze werkzaam als postdoc (2001-2003), assistant professor (2003-2007) en associate professor (2007-2011) bij de afdeling Pathologie van de Universiteit Maastricht. Sinds 1 maart 2011 is ze aangesteld als hoogleraar Pathobiologie van kanker, in het bijzonder de rol van epigenetica.

(1991-1995) - Biologische Gezondheidskunde aan de Universiteit Maastricht
Promotieonderzoek (1995-1999) - Op 19 november 1999 promoveerde Prof. van Engeland aan de Universiteit Maastricht op het proefschrift “Nuclear and cytoskeletal changes during apoptosis”.
